Unfortunately, Youth for RISE Lobby Day was snowed out on Monday, February 15th, but now we have a chance to turn Youth Lobby Day into Youth Lobby Month. Let’s make sure everyone, near or far, can tell legislators to invest in kids in their communities instead of large and expensive prisons!
- If you’re interested and available to meet with legislators in person between February 16-March 4th between the hours of 8am-5pm, please contact Jeree Thomas at firstname.lastname@example.org with the days and times that work best for you or your group and we will schedule legislative meetings for you. We can also accompany you or your group on the visit. All participants will receive a RISE for Youth t-shirt for the meeting and packets of information for the visit.
- If you’re unavailable to meet with legislators in person, but interested in having your voice heard you can do the following:
- Write a letter to legislators on the Senate Finance and House Appropriations Committees. Here are two letters you can send electronically:
- Have young people you work with respond to the following prompt through drawing, painting, poetry or any other artistic medium: What can we do to create a world where no youth are locked up? Email or mail (Legal Aid Justice Center, 123 East Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23219) those materials to Jeree Thomas to share with legislators.
